Michael Vick’s signing to the Philadelphia Eagles is arguably the most controversial sports partnership that has met overwhelming media attention. The negative press is pouring in about his one year contract signing worth 1.6 million dollars. Fans opposed to this contract agreement have even gone as far as purchasing billboards leading up to the stadium that will show and remind travelers on route to games of Michael Vick’s vicious dog fighting past. The polls were positive 70 to 30 in favor of Vick’s deserving of a second chance; however that may just have been in theory. Now that he has actually signed to the Eagles, football fans are divided, protesting and angry stating furiously that they will not support “a murder.” Many Philadelphia fans say he is not welcome. Michael Vick was tried, convicted and served 19 months in prison for organization of a dog fighting ring. He lost his position as quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons, and was suspended from the NFL.
So what do we think? We believe that without a doubt, Michael Vick deserves a second chance. He made a public apology, paid his dues in prison and is still fulfilling his extensive community service duties by working with the National Humane Society in support of the prevention of animal cruelty. If you still think Vick deserves the intense detestation after all that he has been through, and support the chanting of his demise, I must ask, what you think the punishment should be for human cruelty. It is one thing to state the issue and even protest unappreciation for the acts done to animals, but it is however, a very cruel action to cast stones in efforts to promote anger and vengeance while holding the misdeeds of another over their head in hopes of prolonged distress. It is just not right, especially after they have asked for forgiveness. Lastly to support our position, I will refer to the word of the day; “Ephesians 4:32: And be kind to one another, tenderhearted forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.” How many times have you needed forgiveness? Our Prayers go out to Michael Vick. Please show your support for him by leaving your prayers and positive messages here.
